LOW-COST 12.9-INCH MACBOOK WITH A18 PRO REPORTEDLY SET FOR EARLY 2026 RELEASE

Apple is preparing to introduce a new, lower-priced MacBook in early 2026, according to a recent report from TrendForce.
-
The research firm said the laptop is expected to debut in the spring, positioning it as an entry-level to mid-range option with pricing designed to sit below the current MacBook Air lineup.
In a press release published this week, TrendForce indicated that the upcoming MacBook will feature a 12.9-inch display and target consumers looking for a more affordable macOS laptop. While the firm did not disclose extensive technical details, its report aligns with earlier supply chain indications pointing to a MacBook powered by Apple's A18 Pro chip, the same processor used in the iPhone 16 Pro.
A MACBOOK POSITIONED BELOW THE MACBOOK AIR
If released as described, the new model would represent Apple's most affordable MacBook offering sold directly through its own retail channels. In the U.S., pricing is expected to fall between $599 and $899, with several analysts suggesting a likely starting point around $699 or $799. That would place it clearly below the MacBook Air, which currently starts at $999, although frequent promotions often bring that price down.
Such positioning suggests Apple is aiming to fill a gap left by older models that remain available through third-party retailers. The M1 MacBook Air, for example, is still sold by some retailers at prices as low as $549 during major sales events. A new MacBook based on the A18 Pro could function as a more modern replacement for that role, offering longer software support and updated industrial design.
