With the release of iOS 17.6, Apple has expanded its Emergency SOS via satellite feature to Japan. This addition means that users with iPhone 14 and later models can now connect with emergency services outside of cellular and Wi-Fi range in Japan. Initially launched in the United States and Canada, this life-saving technology has gradually been introduced to more countries.

With the release of iOS 17.6, Apple has expanded its Emergency SOS via satellite feature to Japan. This addition means that users with iPhone 14 and later models can now connect with emergency services outside of cellular and Wi-Fi range in Japan. Initially launched in the United States and Canada, this life-saving technology has gradually been introduced to more countries.
Apple confirmed the new availability on its website, stating, “Starting today, Apple’s groundbreaking safety service, Emergency SOS via satellite, will be provided to Japanese customers. This innovative technology, which is available on all iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models, allows users to share information with emergency call services even outside cell phone communication and Wi-Fi range.”
The Emergency SOS via satellite feature has been praised by search and rescue teams and has been credited with numerous helicopter rescues.
Since its launch, it has played a vital role in saving lives, enabling users to contact emergency services in remote areas.
