APPLE'S FOLDABLE ROADMAP TAKES SHAPE: IPHONE EXPECTED IN 2026, IPAD TO FOLLOW IN 2028

After years of speculation, leaks, and cautious development, Apple appears to have set a clear timeline for its entry into the foldable device market.

APPLE'S FOLDABLE ROADMAP TAKES SHAPE: IPHONE EXPECTED IN 2026, IPAD TO FOLLOW IN 2028

According to new reports from supply chain sources and analysts, the company plans to launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026, followed by a larger foldable iPad in 2028. If the timeline holds, the move would mark Apple's most significant hardware shift since the debut of the iPad in 2010 and the iPhone X in 2017, as the company embraces a form factor it has so far resisted despite rival adoption.

THE FOLDABLE IPHONE: APPLE'S MOST AMBITIOUS IPHONE YET

The foldable iPhone, expected to debut in 2026, is reportedly designed to unfold into a 7.8-inch display, putting it closer to the footprint of an iPad mini than today's smartphones. Analysts say Apple is targeting a $2,000 price point, cementing the device as a luxury flagship aimed at early adopters, enthusiasts, and premium markets like the U.S., China, and parts of Europe.

Rumors suggest it will feature four rear cameras, a seamless inner display with crease-reduction technology, and potentially an under-display Touch ID sensor, though well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has cautioned that such under-screen features may not be ready for the first generation. The foldable will reportedly drop the physical SIM card slot entirely, continuing Apple's push toward eSIM-only devices.

imageApple's design philosophy with the foldable iPhone is said to prioritize durability and longevity, addressing one of the most common consumer concerns about foldables. Unlike some rival models that still feel fragile, Apple is reportedly demanding a hinge mechanism rated for over 400,000 folds, along with custom glass and OLED panels built to withstand years of daily use.
