Van Graan: Harris will fit in very well
The Rugby Paper
|June 08, 2025
BATH boss Johann van Graan has insisted that the signing of another world-class player in Chris Harris has not put any noses out of joint.
-
From next season, 46-cap Scotland centre Harris will join other new top-drawer signings, Henry Arundell and Santiago Carreras, in adding considerable stardust to the Bath backline.
While Harris' arrival came about due to the long-term Achilles injury suffered by Ollie Lawrence, the pressure for places will be immense once the England centre becomes available again. Van Graan hasn't set a timeline but says Lawrence has been rehabbing like a model professional and is “ahead of schedule.”
While a fit Max Ojomoh, below, shouldn't have too much to worry about when Harris rocks up, game time for other local home-grown players like Tom de Glanville, Orlando Bailey and Will Butt, and Wales U20 centre Louie Hennessey, might be harder to come by.
As someone who fits a similar profile to Harris - tall, strong and robust - Butt, in particular, could find meaningful game time hard to come by. After a season in which he has clocked up over 1,000 minutes in blue, black and white, that would be disappointing.
