Evan Payne’s own goal and a tidy finish from Harry Bower put Alport in cruise control but Jack McMenemy’s late goal set up a basketball-style finish.

The Lincoln striker was then denied by Jack Sheward’s fingertip onto the post two minutes from time before substitute Luca Whitney finally settled it, setting up a trip to Step 6 Clay Cross Town in the last 32.

Whitchurch first-team coach Seydou Bamba, in charge while boss Adam Shillcock served a suspension, said: “We were relentless from the first minute.

“We kept at it and created chances, our biggest problem was taking them and when that happens your opponent only needs to take one to get back into the game.
