Hailing from Yorkshire - despite his Continental-sounding name - the Picnic PostNL rider is in his first season in the WorldTour

WATT WORKS FOR ME BJOERN KOERDT

What's the origin of your name?

My dad is half-German, half-Swedish: Bjoern is Swedish, and Koerdt is German. My mum is from Northern Ireland. I was raised in Yorkshire, spent a few years racing in France, but now live in Sittard in the Netherlands, a few kilometres from Germany, and 15km from Belgium. So I'm a mix of everything!

What's your cycling background?

When I was five, my dad bought a road bike for my middle sister, but she wasn't interested so I took it up instead. I raced cyclo-cross as well as road as a junior.
