Saudis among backers interested in new format

Jumbo-Visma boss Richard Plugge is heading up a group trying to secure venture capital backing for a new cycling super league, it emerged last week.

Last Thursday Reuters broke the news that Ineos Grenadiers and Jumbo-Visma are among teams looking to create the league in a move to drive more money towards the squads.

Speaking to Cycling Weekly, Plugge all but confirmed the reports: "It's obvious that cycling sleeping is a sleeping giant and deserves an improved business model. For all stakeholders, but especially for the World Tour teams."
