India extends sugar export curbs

CONCERNED OVER the rising prices and the impact of a weak monsoon on sugarcane crops, India has extended curbs on exports of sugar beyond October.

A notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade on October 18 says the restrictions would apply to some grades of raw, refined and organic sugar. The country had earlier limited sugar exports to 6.2 million tonnes for the season that ended on September 30. The latest announcement is to ensure enough supply to meet dome
