It is a weapon system that is the envy of the world. And it is a vital part of the country's naval prowess. An insight on the BRAHMOS which plays a crucial role in the defence of India's vast coastline

INDIAN NAVY'S UNPARALLELED MODERN COMBAT ASSET 'BRAHMOS'

India by virtue of its unique geography having coastlines, vast innumerable islands and the Indian Ocean forming its 'strategic backyard' is steadily emerging as a major maritime power of the 21st century.

To fortify the country's maritime front and secure its strategic waterways, the Indian Navy has embarked on an ambitious modernisation drive. By acquiring a large number of state-of-the-art maritime platforms, weapons and systems, the Navy has sharpened its operational readiness. One newage tactical weapon which has significantly bolstered the Navy's combat firepower is supersonic cruise missile BRAHMOS.

As the world's fastest, deadliest and most versatile precision strike weapon, BRAHMOS has been deployed on several frontline surface combat platforms of the Navy, making them incredibly lethal and powerful. BRAHMOS surface-to-surface missile (SSM) variant has become the Navy's "prime strike weapon" which is capable of undertaking modern naval warfare missions from open seas as well as littoral zones.
