Geopolitics
|January 2025
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is advancing India’s defence ecosystem with ground breaking innovations, including next-generation combat platforms, autonomous technologies, and cutting-edge systems, underscoring its commitment to India’s military modernisation, highlights ARUN RAMCHANDANI, SVP & Head – L&T Precision Engineering and Systems IC
How does L&T plan to expand its role in the Indian Army's modernisation efforts?
L&T has been a long-standing partner of the Indian Army and has contributed immensely to its modernisation over decades by delivering multiple weapon delivery platforms, artillery platforms, and bridging systems.
L&T is actively engaged in all the modernisation programs of the Armoured Corps & Mechanised Infantry of the Army and seeks to play a key role in the development & production of futuristic platforms for these programs. L&T, along with DRDO, has realised First Indigenously Designed and Developed Light Tank in record time and achieved milestones of Developmental Field Firing Trials and Firing at High Altitudes. This a true example of Industry, User and DRDO collaboration and evidence of our design and engineering prowess.
We are also working on developing indigenous 1500 HP and 600 HP transmission for Armoured Platforms along with DRDO, which will be a vital part of future armoured platforms.
For the Artillery, we had completed deliveries of 100 Nos K9 Vajra-T, ahead of contractual delivery schedules, from our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Hazira and have recently signed a repeat contract for the same with enhanced indigenous content, which is part of the Artillery modernisation roadmap. We are also delivering additional Pinaka Rocket Launcher regiments and upgrading the Pinaka launchers to interface with the long-range guided version of the rocket.
We are also working on developing a Runway Independent Remotely Piloted Aerial System (RWI-RPAS) UAV for High Altitude under the Make-2 Programme for the Indian Army.
