ARMED Forces chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. conferred the Gold Cross medals to 12 soldiers who figured in a recent series of clashes in Negros Occidental that left 19 New People's Army (NPA) rebels dead.
Brawner awarded the medals to the soldiers, led by Capt. Dexter Dauan, on Saturday during the 52nd founding anniversary of the Army's 302nd Brigade in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.
The Gold Cross medal, awarded to personnel for acts of gallantry in action, is the third-highest decoration for combat.
The highest combat decoration is the Medal for Valor, followed by the Distinguished Conduct Star.
In his address, Brawner commended the troops for their courage even as he emphasized the importance of sustaining the momentum in securing the communities.
