And it wouldn't take too great a stretch of the imagination to think he would have approved of World Vegetarian Day - a day marked internationally that kicks off a month of parties, presentations, food tasting displays and plenty of discussion.

It began back in 1977 when the North American Vegetarian Society wanted an annual celebration to promote the joy, compassion and life-enhancing possibilities of vegetarianism.
