Leeds puts Bali in the shade as heatwave water warnings issued
Yorkshire Evening Post
|August 13, 2025
Temperatures in Leeds will soar to 32°C today as the fourth heatwave of the summer hits its peak.
Today there will be highs of 29°C, according to the BBC-which makes Leeds hotter than Bali. In some parts of the country thermometer readings forecast 34°C degrees.
The UK Health Security Agency has warned of possible deadly effects as it issued heat health warnings for all of England. In addition, the country is now suffering from "nationally significant" water shortfalls despite rain in July, officials warned.
There are currently navigation closures or restrictions across sections of the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Meanwhile, officials have praised the public for following hosepipe bans, which are in place for all Yorkshire Water customers.
The national drought group, which includes the Met Office, regulators, the Government, water companies and other organisations, has met as five areas of the country remain in drought, with six more in prolonged dry weather status.
