Leeds house prices fall – but numbers for the year are up

House prices in Leeds dropped in May, new figures show.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show the average Leeds house price in the year to May was £241,163 - a 1.1 per cent decrease on April.

Rent costs, however, remained stable over the past year.

The picture was different to that across Yorkshire and the Humber, where prices increased by 2.4 per cent.

The drop in Leeds does not reverse the longer-term trend in the area, which has seen property prices in the area grow by 7.1 per cent over the last year.

It means the area ranked sixth among Yorkshire and the Humber's 15 local authorities for annual growth, with the average price in Leeds rising by £16,000 over the past year.

The highest annual growth in Yorkshire and the Humber was in Rotherham, where property prices increased on average by 10.9 per cent.
