Hands-free approach is 'safer for the cat, safer for me'

Rebecca Mason, has volunteered at Cat Action Trust 1977 Leeds, for the past two years. She invited me to come to the LS7 area to see how the trapping process works.

The trap is a silver cage with a hatch on one side and a transparent panel on the other, alongside a long piece of black rope attached to the top.

Cat food is laid inside the trap to lure a feral cat inside. Once comfortably in the cage, the rope is pulled, closing the hatch and trapping the cat inside.

The cat is then transferred into a carrier and a towel is placed over the top to ease anxiety. No handling is involved as the cat may claw or bite in self-defence.
