While these are all pretty dire in their own way, there's one thing that tops the lot. Roadworks.

Or to be precise, temporary traffic lights that spring up with depressing regularity the moment the summer months arrive.

Utility companies, communications providers, bridge inspectors, water firms... it seems everyone is at it now that the nights are a bit lighter. And everyone from Highways England to the Dull Men's Club on Facebook has an explanation as to why your journey suddenly takes twice as long.

Not far from Wobschall Towers is a busy four-way junction where two main roads meet. There are permanent traffic lights which usually more or less keep things flowing.
