A third of British motorists believe drivers should be required to retake their driving test once they reach the age of 70, a new study has found.

According to research by the Green Insurer, 33 per cent of drivers surveyed support mandatory test resits at age 70, as concerns mount over road safety in an ageing population.

An even larger group (46 per cent) think that while a full test may not be needed, compulsory eye tests should be introduced for all drivers over 70. Only 17 per cent of respondents believe no additional checks are necessary for older drivers.
