It is almost two years since the BBC's former political editor Nick Robinson launched an attack on what he called 'news avoiders'.
The comments came after his flagship BBC Radio 4 Today programme recorded a loss of more than 1m listeners in a year. The slump was, according to Robinson, due to an increasing number of people "who don't want to face the world's problems".
At the time he said:
"People just want to avoid the news. Market research literally calls them 'news avoiders'. We will all know people who think 'I just can't face the world any more'."
