A Kingdom where deluges of rain are never far away, overcast days are a common autumn or winter companion, our many mighty rivers feed into the North Sea and our beautiful Pennines mountain range moorlands collect the water of life into deep underground aquifers, eventually making their way to you and me.
-
With all this, you'd think we would be living in a veritable Waterworld!
Yet instead, we find ourselves in the situation where a few days of intense heat and a few extra ice cubes in our pub garden drinks has caused mass drought. Now we get punished for daring to try and use a hosepipe to help our gardens grow! That'll help the prisons crisis. It's a strange, brave new world we live in!
More seriously, and jokes aside, we the people of Yorkshire must demand that the private utility company which controls Yorkshire's Water is forced to build more reservoirs to cater for Yorkshire's population growth. The last reservoir in our little country up north was Scaling Dam Reservoir, completed in 1958. My parents were born in the 1960s and I've recently turned 26.
