Stoppage-time penalty see Gulls snatch point

PAUL Wotton said the substitutes made a difference when Torquay United won a point from a game they looked like they were about to lose at Maidstone United on Saturday.

Torquay were 1-0 down from the seventh minute in Kent against a team who historically they have struggled against, but Wotton made four changes in the second half and Jordan Young got the equaliser in the 96th minute after he had been fouled in the area. The home fans didn't like it, but Wotton said it was a deserved point and a stonewall penalty.

Wotton said: "I think we deserved a point, we definitely deserved a point. It wasn't a good football game at all. We were pre-warned what Maidstone are all about - physicality, being organised, and playing forward very quickly. Not letting us play.

"I just felt, first half, we felt like we had a divine right to play - and you can't play like that away from home against Maidstone, who are the team that I have just described.
