Grecians without Magennis for rest of their campaign

EXETER City manager Gary Caldwell has confirmed that Josh Magennis will not play again this season, leaving a question mark over whether the Northern Ireland international has played his last game for the club.

The 34-year-old frontman has notched 13 times for Exeter this season, making him the club's joint-top goalscorer, along with Millenic Alli, who departed St James Park for Luton Town in January in a £1.5 million deal.

Magennis has picked up an injury, though, and missed the recent games against Bristol Rovers, Burton Albion and Crawley. And after breaking down in training last week, Caldwell says he will now sit out the remainder of the campaign.

“Josh will miss the remaining two games and that is a blow,’ Caldwell said. “He has been a big part of what we have done this season, he has been the focal point and been available up until his injury for every single game, which shows his professionalism and the standards he sets himself to be fit and ready to play every single game.

“We will miss him for the next two games and it is a shame for him that he couldn't get a game at SJP and show what he's done all season and show the fans something in that last game, but we'll hopefully see him again next year.”
