Shot on 16mm film, Mark pays close attention to detail, focusing on closeups of landscapes and seascapes, as well as scenes of dereliction.

GONE FISHING

GREAT CAST: Callum Turner as Liam and George MacKay as Nick

"The landscape, and in this case the seascape, is only ever shown in relation to the people," he explains.

"Sometimes that even means showing it completely empty, like those shots of the sea. But even then, it’s about the sea’s potential and its historical significance to Cornwall. It's never separate; it's always tied to the community.

"The film opens with those images of dereliction, and that’s really about the state of the community. It illustrates the present, while also hinting at the past, an industrial past, and then it raises the question of the future: where things go from here."

George, known for his roles in the First World War film 1917 and the thriller Femme, says he enjoyed the moments of silence in his character.

"What I love about more silent characters is the challenge of trying to emote without relying on dialogue," says the actor, 34.

"There's something compelling about how a film like this can be interpreted in so many different ways

"I wanted to stay open to that, not vague or blank, but without feeling pressured to impose a single, definitive interpretation.
