THURSDAY night's result has put Labour in an extremely difficult position.

As the votes were counted at Caerphilly Leisure Centre, it became clear Plaid would be victorious.

‘The result? It is the first time Labour has failed to win the Caerphilly seat in a Senedd or Westminster election for more than a century.

With a vote share that has plummeted by almost 35% since the last Senedd election in 2021, Labour trailed in not second place, but third.

As Plaid Cymru celebrated on the steps of the Senedd yesterday after their historic win, Welsh Labour leader and First Minister Eluned Morgan made her way to a Labour group meeting.
