Tributes after teen is killed by cricket ball

A 17-YEAR-OLD cricketer has died tragically in Australia after being struck in the neck by a ball during a training session. Ben Austin was practising with his teammates at Ferntree Gully Cricket Club in Melbourne when he suffered the fatal blow.
Austin was batting in the nets while wearing a helmet when the accident occurred. Emergency services were summoned and the young sportsman was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but sadly he could not be saved.
‘The teenager was placed on life support before dying yesterday.
Ferntree Gully Cricket Club confirmed the heartbreaking news in a social media post.
“The Ferntree Gully Cricket Club sadly wishes to advise of the tragic passing of our player, Ben Austin on 29/10/25. We are absolutely devastated by the passing of Ben, and the impacts of his death will be felt by all in our cricket community,’ it read.
