Search is on for new operator to run riding school

CARDIFF council is seeking a new operator to ensure the future of a much-loved facility in the city.
Cardiff Riding School is celebrating its 50th year in 2025, and an initiative, prompted by significant financial strain on council budgets across the UK, has been launched in an effort to attract investment into the facility and guarantee its service to the community for years to come.
Established in 1975, Cardiff Riding School is a non-statutory service and is in fact the only equestrian centre in Wales run by a local authority.
A proposal to explore an alternative operator for the riding school received support from nearly 77% of consultation respondents when the idea was suggested during Cardiff council's annual budget-setting process for 2024-25.
The school spans about 12 hectares of land at Pontcanna Fields. It currently houses 43 horses, with 31 being school horses used for lessons and the remaining 12 privately owned.
