Investigation launched into health board's waiting list 'anomalies'

AN OFFICIAL investigation has been initiated into waiting time figures from Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board.
Health Secretary Jeremy Miles confirmed the decision following last week's delay in publishing NHS Wales performance data.
Issues identified include discrepancies in reported waiting list numbers and mismatches with operational activity figures. The health board stated it was taking steps to resolve the situation and emphasised that the data problem had "not impacted the delivery of care".
The development follows ongoing difficulties at the health board, which was placed into special measures for a second time by the Welsh Government in February 2023. It had previously been under special measures between 2015 and 2020.
Jeremy Miles MS, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, said: "Following discussions with the chief statistician, the publication of referral-to-treatment (RTT) waiting times for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is being suspended, pending the outcome of an external investigation into the quality and governance of its data.
