'Intoxicated' thug beat his ex-girlfriend

Swansea Crown Court heard Vincent Carroll's former partner “begged” him to stop the attack on her, but the pleas “only seemed to make him angrier”.

Jailing the defendant, a judge told the 47-year-old he had subjected his victim to a “prolonged and persistent” assault while in a state of intoxication.

Craig Jones, prosecuting, told the court Carroll and the complainant met in 2024 when the woman was living in temporary accommodation in Neath. He said the pair began a relationship and when the woman got her own flat Carroll soon moved into the property.

The prosecutor said the relationship was initially a “positive” one but as Carroll's “use of alcohol escalated his behaviour deteriorated” and he became increasingly aggressive and verbally abusive until the pair split up.
