David Hughes insists it's too early in the season to be worried about a relegation battle after his side were beaten by Bristol Rovers in Saturday's Severnside derby at Rodney Parade.
Rovers cruised into a 3-0 lead in the second half before late goals from substitutes Kai Whitmore and Nathan Opoku gave County hope, but they could not find an equaliser.
A fifth successive League Two defeat, and a sixth in a row in all competitions, means the Exiles are 22nd in the table after seven games above the relegation zone only on goal difference.
“It’s very early,” said the manager.
“We've got a talented group and we need to get everybody fit and ready and we're working every day to make sure we're putting out a team to represent the club in a way that is befitting.
“For large spells of the game, I thought the levels of performance were really positive.
