BACK in the year 2000 I helped organise some of the Millennium events in and around Castle Cary and vividly remember being extremely impressed by the efforts of everyone involved.

- By Godfrey Hall

The recent plethora of scarecrows which have appeared around the town as part of the Britain in Bloom entry have once again shown how much talent there is in Castle Cary.

From Humpty Dumpty on the Yeovil Road to the Flowerpot Men and Little Weed in the garden below the parish church over 120 have appeared outside and inside shops, gardens and community buildings including the fire station, school and Market House. The town has now been assessed by the judges, and we await their verdict sometime in the autumn when the winners will be announced. There is a scarecrow map which you can get from Bailey Hill Book Shop to help you find the many different exhibits. The event has not only brought together community groups but also provided an outlet for the many talented individuals in our community.

Congratulations must go to everyone involved. Featured on the BBC News the town, at the time of writing this, looks quite magnificent.

Having purchased tickets we once again attended the Glastonbury Festival which this year provided excellent facilities for those in the community with accessibility issues.
