STAR LOTS

French comport

HAPPY new year! The team at Wessex Auction Rooms were straight back into the swing of things with our first auction of 2026 being on our very first day back at work!

The auction was split into two specialist sales to include football programmes and sporting memorabilia, shortly followed by pictures, paintings and artwork. As a collector of Arsenal programmes and memorabilia myself, it is always an exciting specialism to be a part of for me, and buyers came from the length and breadth of the country to challenge for the lots. Recent years have seen football shirts experience one of the largest rises in collectability both in the UK and internationally, and Lot 75 highlighted such a trend. It saw three original Southampton Football Club replica football shirts from what can be termed the “Draper Tools” era of the late 80s and early 90s and featured a particularly striking 1986/87 blue away shirt which would’ve been seen worn by a very young Matt Le Tissier, and a slightly older Glenn Cockerill. The shirts had the usual expected wear but still sold for a considerable price of £408 including buyer's premium. Just think how many of those vintage football shirts are hiding away in lofts or at the back of wardrobes... now is the time to dig them out!
