Survey reveals rare species of bee

A RARE species of bee has been discovered in Cornwall.

Surveys undertaken by conservation charity Buglife and the National Trust at Godrevy Farm, near Gwithian, Hayle, have revealed the presence of the nationally scarce red bartsia bee.
Previously this bee had only been known from one other site in the county, where the first Cornish record of it in 20 years was made in 2022.
The red bartsia bee (Melitta tricincta) was found at Godrevy by local entomologist Paddy Saunders and Nick Holden from the National Trust.
