Familiar foe to face Street in opening FA Cup round

STREET have been handed a home tie against a familiar foe to start this season's FA Cup.

Familiar foe to face Street in opening FA Cup round

The Cobblers will welcome Brixham to The Tannery, following Brixham’s promotion to the Southern League this season.

Ben Watson’s team will be hoping to emulate Brixham in this Western League Premier Division campaign, and this could be a good yardstick for both sides to measure their progress this summer on August 2.

Street suffered a 3-1 defeat at Brixham in March, having also lost 2-0 in the reverse fixture in September.

Should Street progress, they will have the luxury of another home tie in the preliminary round on August 16, hosting the winners of Southern League side Mousehole or fellow Western League neighbours Bridgwater Town.

Shepton Mallet face an early trip to newly promoted Western League Premier Division side Newquay. The sides aren’t due to meet in the league until November 1, before Shepton’s trip to Cornwall scheduled for the end of the season on April 18.

Newquay won the Premier West Division of the South West Peninsula League last season and will look to enjoy this foray into the FA Cup.

If Shepton make it through, they will travel to reconvene with former manager Craig Loxton who is now a coach at Southern League Frome Town.

From Sudan to Wells – mayor shares his remarkable story

IS truth sometimes stranger than fiction? Quite possibly. Could you write it? A ten-year-old boy from the Sudan, speaking no English, arrives in London in 1981. Forty-four years later he becomes the 651st Right Worshipful Mayor of a beautiful, quintessential tiny English city in the rural south-west of England. True or false? Totally true. We are talking about Councillor Louis Agabani and, of course, we are talking about Wells, and we are at the November meeting of Wells Civic Society, where Louis told his story.
