A recent case from Harvester Primary School in Mitchells Plain has sent shockwaves through the community; a female teacher was arrested after sending pornographic videos to a Grade 7 learner, spotlighting the distressing reality of sexual crimes in South African schools.

The Education Labour Relations Council revealed alarming statistics, reporting that 111 cases of sexual harassment and abuse of learners by teachers were referred to them in the 2024/25 financial year - a significant jump from 82 cases the previous year.
