Reformation Hub: 4,000 First-Time Offenders Shifted To Exclusive Jails

Most Of Them, Aged 21-30 Yrs, In Prison On Charge Of Theft

New Delhi: In order to reform prisoners and reduce the crime rate, jail authorities have shifted more than 4,000 first-time offenders to two jails meant exclusively for them.
Data accessed by TOI showed that 2,988 first-time offenders were lodged in central jail number four in Tihar, while 1,099 were kept in central jail 12 in Mandoli. Most first-time offenders were lodged on theft charges, followed by bodily offences and cheating cases. Most were aged between 21 and 30 years.
While 13% of the inmates were graduates, 11% were postgraduates, 5% professionals. 26% senior secondary passouts, 25% primary passouts and 20% illiterates, the data showed.
