I refer to the article "Singapore's independence was not inevitable; key leaders on both sides pushed for Separation: SM Lee" (Dec 7).
As someone born in the early 1990s, I have only ever known Singapore to be a stable and successful country. For many in my generation, it is easy to assume that its achievements were simply the natural outcome of good governance and hard work.
