Too early for children to have debit cards

I refer to the article "Debit card for your 7-year-old? Banks in Singapore ramp up strategies to attract younger crowd" (Nov 1).
Although parents may be able to get a debit card for their child, I believe young children are not yet equipped to understand the responsibility and risks that come with handling money, let alone a debit card.
