Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner's matching looks – style or strategy?
The Straits Times
|December 22, 2025
For their first red-carpet appearance as a couple back in May, Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner wore matching all-black looks to the David di Donatello Awards, which are Italy’s version of the Academy Awards.
Since then, speculation has been rampant that their relationship could be in trouble. Those flames were fanned when the American actor declined to comment about the American reality star and beauty entrepreneur in an interview with Vogue magazine in November, adding: “I just don’t have anything to say.”
On Dec 8, at the Los Angeles premiere of Marty Supreme, Chalamet’s film about a table tennis player, the pair appeared in shockingly bright orange ensembles that tied in with the marketing of the movie. They were coordinated to the point that they felt like an attempt to loudly project that their relationship was safe.
“Matching on the red carpet is one of the oldest plays in the playbook,” said Ms Lauren Beeching, a crisis public relations agent based in London.
While Marty Supreme, which Chala-met produces and stars in, has leaned on a 1990s-style windbreaker as its main piece of merchandise, the couple’s appearance also recalled the end of that decade and the early aughts, which was a golden era of sorts for celebrity couples.
