STI climbs 0.1% after calmer session on US bond markets

A calmer session on American bond markets following the progress of US President Donald Trump's tax-and-spend Bill steadied Wall Street and gave regional markets a lift as well on May 23.
The better mood nudged the Straits Times Index (STI) up 0.1 per cent, or 2.33 points, to 3,882.42.
Across the broader market, gainers beat losers 232 to 213 on trade of 1.2 billion shares worth $1.2 billion.
The local banks rose: DBS added 0.6 per cent to $44.46; UOB rose 0.1 per cent to $35.32; and OCBC put on 0.9 per cent to $16.29 as the STI's top gainer.
