I refer to the article “Keep populism at bay, or there will be dire, lasting implications: Ong Ye Kung” (Sept 23).

I was heartened by Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Health Minister Ong Ye Kung’s recent remarks in Parliament, which offered a candid and mature perspective on the evolution of Singapore’s political landscape.
Far from a typical political speech, his comments on the Workers’ Party and the dangers of populism were a welcome acknowledgement that the ruling party is not afraid of a credible opposition.
