Piastri's work far from done in title duel with Norris

Hold your horses! Hands off the alarm button!

The destiny of the 2025 Formula One world championship has not yet been determined, notwithstanding Lando Norris' misfortune in the Dutch Grand Prix.

Not with 225 points (plus 24 from three sprint races) still on the table for the remaining nine grands prix, in Italy next week, then Azerbaijan, Singapore, Texas, Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

But you might be forgiven for thinking Oscar Piastri is reaching one hand out towards it after scoring his seventh victory of the year, as McLaren teammate Norris lost 18 points when engine failure brought his challenge to a halt with seven laps to run.

As Lewis Hamilton discovered with a similar situation in Malaysia in 2016, it hurts when mechanical unreliability influences the outcome of a title fight — in his case giving Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg sufficient margin to hang on, win, and then retire because he knew just how hard it had been to beat the British warrior that season.
