TMC leader raises spectre of factionalism at party forum

Ahead of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to north Bengal, factional tensions within the Trinamul Congress (TMC) surfaced in Cooch Behar, even in the presence of the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
A section of TMC leaders, including former North Bengal Development Minister Rabindranath Ghosh, raised concerns over alleged factionalism within the district unit. Mr Ghosh, who recently resigned as Chairman of the Cooch Behar Municipality following instructions from Abhishek Banerjee, criticised the district leadership for not allowing a group of senior leaders ~ including former MP Partha Pratim Roy ~to address a party programme held on 13 January at Ghughumari Kadamtala in Cooch Behar.
The developments come just ahead of the Chief Minister's scheduled visit to the region.
