SIT to probe Murshidabad violence; NHRC, NCW to visit affected areas

In the wake of escalating violence in Murshidabad, triggered by protests against the new Waqf Bill, the West Bengal Police has constituted a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate multiple cases of unrest, arson, and murder.
The SIT will be headed by an officer of Additional Superintendent of Police rank and will comprise personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Task Force (STF), state police, and the Intelligence Branch.
The SIT will specifically examine the killings of Hargobind Das and Chandan Das in Dhuliyan—an incident that had earlier prompted the formation of a preliminary investigative team. Two suspects have already been arrested in connection with the murders.
