Six bighas of ‘vacant’ landin the heart of Burdwan town can be the target of any real estate shark, even ifthe land happens tobea burial ground.

One such developers’ company has recently spread its tentacles on a portion of this land, prompting the lodging of a complaint with the district authorities.

But within hours of his doing so yesterday, the complainant was forced to flee his home adjacent to the land after “four or five goons appeared at his residence” in the evening and threatened him “with extreme consequences.”

He has now taken refuge with relatives on the outskirts of Burdwan town.
