CPM protests against BJP, TMC over 'communal rhetoric'

CPM urged Mamata Banerjee to act against BJP's Suvendu Adhikari and TMC's Humayun Kabir for alleged communal remarks in the Assembly, vowing to continue protests demanding accountability and action

In a dramatic turn of events, leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] from the Siliguri Area Committee-2 staged a protest outside the Panitanki Police Outpost in Siliguri.

The protesters submitted a formal representation urging Police Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also serves as the state's Chief Minister, to take strict action against the Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari (BJP) and Trinamul Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir for their alleged use of "unparliamentary" language in the State Assembly.

The CPI-M leaders accused the duo of instigating "communal polarisation" during the Assembly proceedings, which they claim is damaging to the state's social fabric and Constitution.

Speaking to reporters, Darjeeling district CPI-M Secretary Saman Pathak emphasised that the party would continue its statewide protests demanding accountability from the two leaders.

"The Assembly is a sacred forum where elected representatives are expected to discuss matters of public interest, development, and government policies. However, these leaders have chosen to raise divisive and communal issues, which is unacceptable," Pathak said.

He added that the CPI-M has condemned their actions and called on the authorities to take appropriate action in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Assembly.
