Being a city that is steeped in spirituality, Varanasi is known for its vibrant celebrations during the 'Rangbhari Ekadashi' and 'Masan Holi'.
These festivals come up with an extraordinary perspective on the deep-rooted traditions of the city.
'Rangbhari Ekadashi' marks the homecoming of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
On the other hand, 'Masan Holi' is celebrated at cremation grounds, which signifies the philosophical ideas of life and death.
'Rangbhari Ekadashi' is rooted in Hindu mythology, honouring the sacred union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati as a sign of joy, devotion and divine love.
According to legends, after their celestial wedding, Shiva returned to Kashi or Varanasi with Parvati and the city began celebrating this union with colours.
The festival kicks off with 'Shivji ki Sawari', which is a grand procession that carries the idol of Lord Shiva in the streets.
