Harry Kane struck twice to equal England’s World Cup scoring record as the Three Lions opened their campaign with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia in Group L on Wednesday.
Kane's brace took his World Cup tally to 10 goals, drawing level with Gary Lineker’s long-standing England record set across the 1986 and 1990 tournaments. England were made to work hard for the win after Croatia twice fought back in a pulsating first half.
Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a VAR review ruled that goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic had moved off his line when saving the striker’s initial effort. The England captain made no mistake with the retake.
