Kings clinch an 11-run verdict after a brave chase by the Titans fall short in the final over
Punjab Kings survived a thrilling chase by Gujarat Titans to clinch an 11-run victory in a high-scoring Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Tuesday.
Chasing a formidable target of 244 runs, the Titans rode strong batting by Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford to go tantalisingly close to an improbable win before falling short at 232-5.
Sudharsan was the top scorer for Gujarat with 74 runs off 41 balls and gave the chase a solid foundation with a 61-run opening stand alongside skipper Gill who posted 33 off 14.
Glenn Maxwell managed to dismiss Gill in the sixth over, but Jos Buttler - the next man in - tormented the Punjab bowlers with his power hitting, with Sudharsan also producing fireworks at the other end. Sudharsan's dismissal by Arshdeep Singh in the 13th over did not bring any respite for Punjab as Rutherford joined Buttler in the middle and the duo added 54 runs between them in just 33 balls.
