Adhir urges cops to stay neutral, LoP wants state to seek Central aid

Senior Congress leader and former leader of the opposition (LOP) in Parliament, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has called upon the police to maintain neutrality amid rising tensions in parts of West Bengal. He accused both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamul Congress (TMC) of orchestrating religious polarisation ahead of 2026 Assembly elections.
Speaking to the media, Mr Chowdhury today stated: "The BJP and TMC are deliberately creating an atmosphere of communal unrest to polarise votes. If the police do not act impartially, the situation will become even more dangerous. People from different communities are being pitted against each other in a planned manner."
