Theatre Plus debuts with Tarasundari
The Statesman Bhubaneswar
|October 11, 2025
The month of October began with a renewed celebration as the city's cultural scene welcomed Theatre Plus, a new production house by the acclaimed actress Gargee Roychowdhury. The day also featured the launch of the official poster of its maiden venture, Tarasundari. This solo act pays tribute to one of Bengali theatre's most enigmatic icons.
Tarasundari, a name that once lit up the stages of 19th-century Bengal, was no ordinary performer. Excelled equally in both tragedy and comedy, she was celebrated for her versatility. Beyond her acting, she was a gifted singer, tackling classical compositions to European melodies, and a dancer whose stage presence was unmatched. However, unlike her contemporaries - Noti Binodini, Tinkori Dasi, and Prabha Devi - history has largely overlooked her.

China's claim over the Indian territory of Arunachal Pradesh, which it calls South Tibet, and Ladakh has been a long-standing issue between the two countries. China's aggressive infrastructure development near the border and its strategic road and railway projects in Tibet have raised apprehensions about its intentions in the region
