Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led "Double Engine" government, accusing it of pushing Odisha into reverse gear instead of accelerating its progress.

Speaking during the state budget debate, Patnaik remarked that Odisha, once a model of transformation under the BJD government, has now been reduced to a state of cosmetic changes—focused on altering names and colors rather than driving real development.

Patnaik highlighted that Odisha's growth rate has plummeted under the BJP, falling from 10% during the BJD's tenure to just 8% this year. He exposed the BJP's misleading budget, pointing out that after factoring in inflation, the ₹2.90 lakh crore budget is effectively smaller than last year's ₹2.77 lakh crore.

Slamming the BJP's fiscal mismanagement, he revealed that the open market loan burden has surged past ₹46,000 crore, with per capita debt mounting every year. This reckless borrowing will cripple the state's finances, leaving little room for welfare and development, he warned.

Dismissing the BJP's much-hyped "Double Engine" promise as a disaster, Patnaik said it has delivered "double misery" instead of "double benefit." He exposed the Centre's neglect, revealing that grants-in-aid from the Central Government have remained stagnant, despite the BJP's claims of boosting Odisha's fortunes.

Patnaik reminded the House that the BJP government is surviving on the strong fiscal foundation laid by the BJD. "More than half of the budget is being funded by Odisha's own tax revenue, proving that the Centre's so-called 'support' is nothing but a myth," he asserted.
